Where the Heart Is

Yesterday I spent a good part of the day in the library, working and writing.  I needed a quiet place that wasn't my house.  I finished up there and ran to the store to grab a couple of things I'd forgotten the previous day.  On the way out I had the opportunity to talk with a homeless man. He was sitting on the ground eating breakfast (by this time it was late afternoon) he'd gotten out of the dumpster at steak and shake.  He asked me if I had $.47 so he could get a drink. I gave him all the cash I had in my purse, it wasn't much but I was glad I had some cash to give. I stood and talked with him and offered him some of the snacks I had in my my hand  but he didn't want to take  anything away from me. I told him I didn't mind sharing and it would be my pleasure but he told me he was diabetic.  It touched me in such an incredible way that someone with nothing was worried about me not having enough.  I asked his name and if I could pray wit...

I got 5 on it!

One of the things I set out to accomplish this month was writing a letter of interest and support for the upcoming ministry things that I'm working on.  So as I wrote the letter I found myself asking the recipients to make an investment in souls.  When I wrote the letter I was thinking investments in terms of planting seeds.  In the week following, I had several conversations with friends who were in the Valley of Decision, self included.  As I talked relationships with one of my friends, I asked if she was willing to invest in the guy again and give him the opportunity to get to the point he needed to be.  So later that week I was asking myself that same question. This made me think...  Investments require risk.  Anything you're willing to pour into, you have to consider if the risk is worth taking and if so, how long are you willing to wait on the return in your investment?  I thought long and hard and definitely prayed about it....

Warm Fuzzies...

There's nothing better than the warmth and comfort of a soft fuzzy blanket on a cold night.  You can't wait to pull it up high under your chin and tuck it all around you so no cold air can get to you.  Well this morning as I felt the cool air in my room hit the back of my leg I realized a few things... 1. when you're outside the covering you get hit with the sneak attack 2. sometimes when you leave, it's hard to get back underneath like you were because you're so tangled up 3.when it's really bad you have to stop everything and focus on that task for a while until you get it right 4. sometimes you have to change positions to get it right I hope y'all are with me in the spirit... you can look at this a couple ways..Look at that warm fuzzy blanket as God's covering... sometimes we get out of His will, and way without even realizing it until we get hit with a sneak attack. Then we feel just like that cold foot that's hanging out from under the ...

Pack Light...

The past two years have been an amazing journey for me to say the least.  I quit my job, went to grad school, became a minister, moved into my own place, started my own business, became a nationally published writer, graduated and got my Masters degree, became a licensed Social Worker, entered a relationship, became a pastor, helped plant a church, and sooo many other things.  God gets all the glory because if you had asked me about any of it, the only things I'd probably say maybe to are writing, and the business... It all started in prayer.  I asked God what it was that He wanted me to do, how He wanted me to do it, and simply trusted Him to handle the details.  Was it easy?  not always... has it been worth it?? Absolutely!!  Have I lost some things/people along the way??  you better believe it!  But for everything/one I lost God has added so much more... Throughout this process I had so many questions and so many concerns but God always sai...

The Little Engine that Could

When I got to school today I got back the paper for my personal theological model.  The paper had to be 15-20 pages in length and have several research sources, an outline, and give a good explanation of my model, current models, strengths and weaknesses, and how I plan to integrate the model with social work.  Well, the night before the paper was due, I had to start from scratch and redo the whole thing.  I was so sleepy, my brain was fried and my thoughts were all over the place.  I woke up at the keyboard at one point, looked at the screen and saw random groupings of letters that were probably words in my sleepy mind lol  I worked on the paper until 2 am that morning, slept for a few hours and got back at it at 6 a.m.  I finished the paper about 15-20 minutes before the class started (6:15 p.m.) and went to turn it in.  My friend saw me and said you look ROUGH! I said I feel rough and it's been a rough night and day... I was just glad to be handing...

Raggedy Seeds...

As my pastor has been teaching on the wheat and the tare and seeds being planted, several thought provoking conversations have been born. I was talking to someone today who was offended by someone else and immediately recognized that it was the enemy trying to plant a seed... We can't be ignorant of his devices... To that end, I thought about what seeds are and what they do... Seeds are tiny protective pods that hold the genetic makeup of something and a food supply for the thing to grow. When a seed is planted it uses its own food supply to grow to a point where it can develop roots. Once the roots form it then begins to draw in nutrients from its environment, grow and reproduce on its own Take for instance a mustard seed... Probably the smallest seed we know, but after it's planted and grown for a while... you'd never know that the shrub came from a tiny spot of a seed.   I said all that to say this... what things are being planted in your life and who are you allo...
