There's a popular reality show called the Biggest Loser where people compete to lose the most weight and win a prize. My question today is, are you the biggest loser? How much weight have you lost?? I'm not talking pounds, but burdens, sins, weights of life and the world...
Hebrews 12:1-3 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Simply put, lay down everything that's heavy on you. Those worries that are burdening your heart, the sin that's holding you hostage, the bad habit you can't seem to kick, the boo-thang that's jacked up, the children who won't do right & can't get right, the so-called friends that talk about you and keep mess going, the negative attitude, twisted paradigm, tradition, bondage, depression, lonliness, anger, hate, pain.... everything and anything that is weighing you down and hindering you from fully serving God.
I know that seems hard, but is it really worth it? Is that sin worth your soul? Is it worth burning forever in Hell and being separated from God? Is that burden worth your health? Is it worth your family? Is it worth causeing someone else to be lost? Is it worth your testimony??
These are the questions I ask myself when I'm tempted or burdened. The answer is always a resounding NO!! And if that doesn't help.. verse 3 give you even more reason...
Consider Jesus! Condsider the fact that He not only took on all of our sin (every sin ever committed, past, present and future for every person ever born) but endured the opposition from these sinners He was going to die for... just so we wouldn't give up in our hearts.
Even bond the fact that He did it, He was glad to do it for us. Verse 2 says for the joy that was set before him endured the cross...despised the shame he felt... but endured it anyway. I don't know anybody who would take on the weight, guilt, shame and burden of all of my sins.. let alone EVERYBODY'S nd find joy in doing it... Who do you know that would do it??
NOT NOBODY!!
I know it's a double negative and improper English, bust seriously.. Nowdays people won't even half pray with you let alone fast or really take on your burden as theirh own. If you can't handle the weight of your sin, how can somebody else handle their own plus yours... Nobody can do that but God. So I think we all could stand to lose some weight, slim down and be able to run this race a little better. Wondering how to do it?? Change your diet...Eat the bread & drink the Water.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
John 4:13 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
God told us to cast our cares upon Him and to come boldly to the throne of grace so we can get mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
So again I ask... are you the biggest loser??
