As my pastor has been teaching on the wheat and the tare and seeds being planted, several thought provoking conversations have been born. I was talking to someone today who was offended by someone else and immediately recognized that it was the enemy trying to plant a seed... We can't be ignorant of his devices...
To that end, I thought about what seeds are and what they do... Seeds are tiny protective pods that hold the genetic makeup of something and a food supply for the thing to grow. When a seed is planted it uses its own food supply to grow to a point where it can develop roots. Once the roots form it then begins to draw in nutrients from its environment, grow and reproduce on its own Take for instance a mustard seed... Probably the smallest seed we know, but after it's planted and grown for a while... you'd never know that the shrub came from a tiny spot of a seed.

I said all that to say this... what things are being planted in your life and who are you allowing to plant??
Matt.13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
How many times has someone made a statement and kept it moving but when you really thought about it.. you were offended or hurt? Has anyone ever said something that made your self esteem take hit or something so discouraging that it made you want to give up? Maybe somebody said something that spoke to your flesh and got ya hot & bothered (keep it real). Or maybe you've been put down all your life and told you'll never be anything or do anything, that you're worthless or unlovable. You may think it's nothing or try to brush it off but it's a seed being planted... it's something small that doesn't need anything on your part to grow into something else.
If you find yourself dealing with something you can't trace then you're probably dealing with some raggedy seed that was planted without you even realizing it or a raggedy seed that you planted and it grew into a monster. We can't always point the blame at others because sometimes we become the sower. We beat up on ourselves, walk in doubt, feed negativity, get caught up in something we just wanted to "try" out or just indulge in things we know we shouldn't.
Gal. 6:7-8 ...for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Not only do we reap what we sow and what's been sown into our lives (if we don't bind the tare) but we produce it's fruit. This is where it really becomes a problem because we're known by our fruits. If we're not producing the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22) then what are we doing??
Matt. 7:19-20 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
My goodness if that doesn't make you wanna examine yourself and say "Lord show me myself, cleanse me, purge me Lord... create in me oh Lord a clean heart!!!" I don't know what will... So be conscious of the seeds you're planting and allowing to be planted in your life, you might just be the tare or the sower of tares.
Instead of planting doubt, gossip and lies, plant truth and a word of encouragement... instead of planting lust and fornication plant purity and righteousness... instead of anger and pride plant love, patience, forgiveness, and humility... instead of being idle and wasting time.. plant a word in your heart, get busy for the kingdom, bless someone else.
Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. Hosea 10:12
