Something's Cooking

Today I had the most frustrating day I've had in a while.   I went to my "river front office" and tried to take a walk.. that didn't help.  I tried listening to music but that didn't help either.  SO I went to the- grocery store to wander the aisles and find some fruit and icecream... then I did what I love to do when I'm frustrated.. I cooked.

I cam home and opened a full out assault on my kitchen.. I grabbed ingredients, pots, knives, a skillet, some broth and as the old folks say.. got the pots stinkin.  As I stood in my kitchen and chopped veggies the tension eased up, (I talk, think and sometimes pretend I have a cooking show), my mind stopped racing and I was able to calm down.  As the veggies went into the skillet, I added my second layer of seasoning, a blackening seasoning I got at the farmer's market, and let them cook for a while.  I tasted and the flavors were not coming through like I wanted them to.  I went back to the spice rack (it pulls down over my stove!! love it!!) and grabbed another type of Cajun seasoning to add to the mix.  I sprinkled some of that in, added some salt and a couple pats of butter to pull out the flavors. I love putting together some yummy food that looks pretty on the plate or in the bowl.  It finished cooking and I added the last bit of pepper and butter to my grits.

So I thought about that thing while I was enjoying my dinner and how all the parts and pieces had to come together for the dish to come out right and be presented properly.

  1. All the right ingredients had to be on hand-  we've gotta be equipped
  2. The ingredients had to be prepped- our gifts have to be honed and used in excellence
  3. The ingredients had to be cooked- we have to endure test and trials
  4. The seasonings needed to be added- we can't do anything without the anointing
  5. The veggies had to reduce and cook down-  some things have to be pruned off, burned off, and sometimes just snatched out of us
  6. Sometimes ya need to add a different type of seasoning - different gifts/assignments require unique anointing
  7. I had to turn the heat up- new levels = greater trials
  8. Nobody wants to eat it if it doesn't look good- our presentation (back to God) is everything
  9. Or smell good-  we have to be in right standing within our worship
  10. The finished product is way better than the parts-  when gifts/talents, anointing, obedience, experience, and authentic worship come together you can help but be full!
Sometimes there's a lot of lessons hidden in the everyday tasks we do but we're  not quiet enough to hear God speaking through the simple things.  He said he would use the foolish things of the world to confound the wise ( 1 Corinthians 1:27).  Take some time to hear God speak in the mundane... He's always speaking but our ears have to be tuned in to His frequency.  Be blessed!
