The devil has $1

The devil has one dollar but God has all the dollars!!  An original song made up by two of my friend's children so simply tells us the truth about our God.  Sometimes the enemy likes to fool us with the illusion that he has so much to offer... twinkling lights, fame fortune, glamor, money, power.. or whatever appeals to you.  In reality, he has the equivalent of a measly dollar.  Why settle for a dollar when God, our daddy, owns the cattle on a thousand hills?  Don't get me wrong, money is nice, but it's not all about that anyway.  Matthew 6:34 tells us to take no thought for tomorrow, for tomorrow shall take thought of the things for itself.  In other words, don't worry about tomorrow, it'll worry about itself.

So what's so Important about these cattle and hills anyway?  Sometimes people get so caught up in chasing the stuff that they forget the true importance of why they're doing what they're doing in the first place. If I've dedicated my gifts back to God, I shouldn't charge $10.000 to come and preach the gospel to a group of people.  Jesus did it for free every day... I shouldn't only agree to go sing if I have room temperature Fiji water in a crystal glass with a bowl of peeled green seedless grapes... I shouldn't write just to see how many people will read it and leave a comment... pray louder than anybody else so people will come through my line for prayer... I shouldn't dance just to be seen and get applause... or do anything just to make my name great.... Proverbs 18:16 lets us know that our gifts will make room for us and bring us before great men.  Our job is to stay focused on God and his will, not our own agenda.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

The same holds true for anything... those of us who are single and waiting on our Godly spouses... you may have this ideal dream man/woman all conjured up in your High Definition, 4-D, Dolby digital surround sound, with smell-o-vision imagination, but miss out on the person God has for you because it's not in the package you thought.  The job of your dreams with great pay, benefits, an expense account, travel and a company car lands right in your lap but you know God's calling you to full time ministry and you're still running...   God's given you wisdom and creative genius and invention ideas to become a millionaire but everyone else says you should have been a model... so you are.  Seek the kingdom first and all these things and many many more will be added... the things doesn't just include material goods.. there's peace, joy, love, deliverance, healing, restoration, comfort, laughter, beauty, grace, mercy, forgiveness, understanding, acceptance, and more than anything the opportunity to have the true and living God live on the inside of you...

I had the opportunity to hear Dr. Steve DeNeff speak at chapel service while here at Asbury.  It was by far one of the best services I've been to since being here.  Dr. DeNeff's message was simple yet profound...  What if instead of the cross being the place where Jesus died for us, it's the place where we die for Him??  What if we take everything we have, all that we are, and everything we aspire to do/become and thrust it recklessly into the cause of the Gospel...?   What would God be able to do with that?

What if we are the dollars the kids were singing about, what if we are those cattle on the hill, and what if we are God's riches...What an investment He has made in us... to consider us worthy of breath each day and to entrust us with gifts, power, authority, and influence....

If you gave God your EVERYTHING today, imagine what He could do with it....
